Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026. Heart of Brevard holds Halloweenfest every year on the Saturday before Halloween, so downtown's biggest costume day is October 24, a full week ahead of the holiday. Friends of Silvermont runs Pumpkin Fest on Friday and Saturday nights, and the last night is Friday, October 30. That puts Brevard's public Halloween calendar on two days: one long Saturday downtown, and one crowded Friday night just before the holiday.
By the time Saturday, October 31, arrives, most of the town's big organized events are already over. Here's how the stretch lines up, starting with the day that has the most going on.
Why the Calendar Breaks This Way
Most years, people blur Halloweenfest and Halloween together because the two are only a few days apart. This year the gap is the longest the calendar allows, a full seven days. The 2026 Pumpkin Fest schedule runs from October 3 through October 30, so its last night comes before Halloween instead of on it.
Both of the season's longest-running local traditions are also hitting round numbers. Friends of Silvermont calls this year's Pumpkin Fest its tenth edition. Across town, the 10th Annual Thunderween is booked for the same Friday, October 30. Two tenth anniversaries on the same night is the main reason October 30 is shaping up as the busiest evening of Halloween week.
October 24, Hour by Hour
Halloweenfest is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. downtown, according to Heart of Brevard's event page. The schedule bunches up in a couple of spots, so it helps to see it in order:
- 10 a.m. Craft and food vendors open and stay until 5 p.m. The Brevard Bike Alliance's free bike valet opens in the Territory Parking Lot at 110 E. Main St. and runs until 2 p.m. Biltmore Church's free Family Fun Fest Inflatables open on South Broad Street.
- 11 a.m. Costume judging starts at the Water Oak Suites parking lot, 123 E. Main St., followed by a costume parade down Main Street. On-site registration is in that same lot.
- 1 p.m. Downtown trick-or-treating starts and runs for one hour. Pet costume check-in and day-of registration open at the Courthouse Gazebo at the same time.
- 1:30 p.m. The pet parade leaves the gazebo and heads to Gaston Street for judging.
- 6 p.m. The Pumpkin Fest gates open at Silvermont Park, 364 E. Main St., and stay open until 9 p.m.
- 6:30 p.m. The free closing concert, "Dark Turn of Mind," starts at the Transylvania County Library amphitheater, 212 S. Gaston St., and wraps at 8 p.m. If the weather turns, it moves indoors to the Rogow Community Room.
The 1 p.m. hour is the tight one. Trick-or-treating and pet check-in start at the same moment, and the pet parade steps off before trick-or-treating ends. A household with a costumed kid and a costumed dog will need two adults or a decision.
The costume contest takes walk-ups, though Heart of Brevard prefers preregistration. The online entry form closes Friday, October 23, at 1 p.m.
The event page doesn't list the businesses taking part in the Spooky Stroll open house. It also doesn't give a street-closure plan or general parking directions for 2026. Before 2 p.m., the bike valet is the only parking option the organizers actually publish.
Go from the morning parade to the Silvermont pumpkins to the library amphitheater and October 24 can fill about eleven hours, almost entirely along East Main and Gaston.
Five Pumpkin Fest Nights Are Left
Pumpkin Fest was planned as eight nights. Two of them are already gone. Friends of Silvermont posted a cancellation notice for opening night, October 3. Then, on the morning of October 10, it called off that night too, because of heavy rain expected to last most of the weekend, and named Friday, October 16, as the next event night.
| Night | Date | Also happening in town |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | October 16 | |
| Saturday | October 17 | |
| Friday | October 23 | Halloweenfest costume entries close at 1 p.m. |
| Saturday | October 24 | Halloweenfest by day, library concert at 6:30 p.m. |
| Friday | October 30 | Thunderween, closing-night music at Silvermont |
Every night runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit North Carolina lists admission at $7 for ages 13 and up, $5 for ages 3 to 12, and free for children under 3. The route is a paved, accessible trail about a third of a mile long, with 20 lighted displays. Along the way you'll find local musicians, food trucks, storytelling, face painting, a White Squirrel scavenger hunt, and tours of the historic Silvermont Mansion.
The ticket money stays in the park. Pumpkin Fest is an all-volunteer event and the main fundraiser for Friends of Silvermont. The group says more than $80,000 in "pumpkin dollars" has gone to maintenance and improvements at Silvermont Park and Mansion since 2018. So every family visit is also a small investment in the park on East Main, and that's no small thing for a park many in town use all year.
With two nights already lost, one more rainy weekend would cut the season down to three. The Friends of Silvermont site is where this year's cancellation notices have gone up, and the October 10 notice was posted early that same morning.
Friday the 30th Carries the Holiday
Pumpkin Fest's closing night has Unpaid Bill and the Bad Czechs on the schedule at 6 p.m. That puts the season's last lighted-pumpkin walk on the same evening as the 10th Annual Thunderween at 185 King Street. Thunderween runs from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. with music by The High Flying Criminals, dancing by Pisgah Thunder, and a costume contest. Proceeds go to the Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County. Explore Brevard's calendar lists the price as "34" with no currency symbol, so check the actual figure when you buy tickets.
The times fit together. Someone could walk the Silvermont trail at 6, catch the start of the band, and still get to King Street before Thunderween's music starts at 7:30.
Families with younger kids have an earlier option. "Halloween Headwear with Lost Girls Creations" runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Sunshine Creative Reuse, 60 W. Main St. It's open to ages 4 to 12 with an adult, supplies are included, and every attendee needs a ticket. The listing shows "25" without a currency symbol. A hat made on Friday afternoon is ready for Saturday.
Out on Mountain Industrial Drive, Oskar Blues Taproom at No. 342 has free live music from 6 to 8 p.m. Explore Brevard also lists Jason Whitaker live at Wine Down that night from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Calendar for October 31 Is Short
Halloween itself has a few public events, and they lean mellow. The most fitting one is at Brevard College. BC Music presents "Silent Movie Suite" from 3 to 4 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall at the Porter Center, 1 Brevard College Drive. The college describes it as a family-friendly comic silent film with live organ accompaniment, and the event listing shows no ticket price. An hour on campus in the afternoon still leaves the evening open.
That evening, Oskar Blues has free live music again from 6 to 8 p.m. Wine Down lists the Bryan McConnell & Mark Guest Duo for the same hours. The calendar entry doesn't include an address or price.
We checked the published calendars and found no trunk-or-treat, haunted trail, or library Halloween program confirmed for October 30 or 31. If a church, fire department, or neighborhood group posts one later, it will be news. Right now, nothing on the books competes with an ordinary Halloween night at home.
When the Pumpkins Come Down
The next things on the calendar come quickly. The First Friday Gallery Walk is November 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. downtown. SylvanSport's free Edge of the Forest Fest follows on November 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 21 Welcome St., with outdoor gear, music, food, and a dog-adoption event. Heart of Brevard's 2026 schedule starts the Holiday Windows Competition on November 27, though Explore Brevard's listing says November 28. Light Up the Night and the annual tree lighting are December 5.
We'll be downtown on the 24th like plenty of our neighbors, probably somewhere between the costume parade and the Silvermont pumpkins. If an October walk down East Main has you wondering what a house a few blocks from it would look like, Mountain Real Estate Rocks is happy to talk Brevard any time, costume optional.
